irons/hybrids

- All Irons are made with True Temper TT Lite steel shafts, or our proprietary graphite shafts, as our base offering. For those seeking greater control, the True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts (R300, S300 & X100) are available as an option.
- We spine align all irons shafts so that the shaft energy releases along the line of the player's swing.
- All irons in a given set are moment of inertia (MOI) matched. This means that each club in the set will swing the same.
- While Tour players, pro's and low handicappers, seem to prefer irons over woods, and some may only have a driver and 3 wood in their bag, there is an increasing trend to more woods and fewer irons. More than half of the inquiries we receive state that the longest iron the player hits well is the 5 iron. However these same people are able to successfully handle lofted fairway woods in place of the long irons. Or they find they can be better served with hybrid irons as an alternate to standard long irons, which allow them to take a more sweeping action to get the ball airborne readily. With this in mind, the clubs below are offered as sets that allow the player to buy fewer irons - only those he feels he can use. This gives him the flexibilty to substitute lofted woods, or hybrids, for the standard long irons, as he so desires. - The idea that the full set of 13 clubs must be matched, one to the other, is also receding. With the longer lengths in vogue now, many players have drifted away from graphite shafts and are using steel shafts in their irons. At the same time they are increasingly using graphite shafts in their woods. This works in practice when the player properly selects shafts, steel in irons and graphite in woods, that fit his swing. Careful selection, in fact, matches the clubs as needed. - Graphite shafts will twist ( torque ) somewhat more than steel shafts, although this can be overcome in design. However, the costs increase greatly and very low torque iron shafts tend to be beyond the pocket book of most players. We do not offer such shafts. Using graphite shafts, one can make his clubs a little longer, since graphite is much lighter than steel. This will produce more a little more distance, perhaps a little less accuracy, and could be a worthwhile tradeoff, especially if the player can only swing his 5 iron 75 mph or less. Most players who can hit their 5 iron more than 150 yards tend to use steel shafts. - The steel shafts in this section come in flexes of "stiff", "firm" or "regular". - The graphite shafts in this section come in flexes of "stiff", "regular", "seniors" and "ladies".
- The standard lengths we use for irons are as follows:-

The people at Simple Golf have developed a package that works far better than any swing method we have tried, without a doubt. It is a single axis swing that keeps the clubhead square to the ball throughout the backswing and downswing--a feat never accomplished before! In about an hour you will be hitting the ball farther, with pinpoint accuracy, than you imagined possible. In about a week you will have grooved the swing for a lifetime. The Simple Golf price for the instructions is $49.95, less than the cost of a pro lesson, for the most elusive thing in golf - a good swing.

- Prestige Classic Irons, 431 stainless steel, steel or graphite shafts RH
- This design will help those who have difficulty in squaring the face at impact due to its generous offsets. -The cavity has a small muscle back member that adds punch to the shot. - The face width, from heel to toe, is an oversized 80 mm's which provides forgiveness on off center hits. - The sole width, from face to rear, is somewhat wider. This places more mass low, below the equator of the ball, which in turn gets the ball airborne quickly.
Overall these clubs are for players who want straighter shots and desire ease of use. The specs. are:-

- BL Soft wedges - PW, SW, LW 304 stainless steel, steel or graphite shafts. RH only
- These complement the Prestige Classic irons above, or can be used as an excellent addition for any set. Soft wedges are designed to promote "feel" on the part of the player so he can quickly learn how to use them. Their tendency is to get the ball up in the air quickly and have it come down softly. The design is the classic "muscle back" - true finesse clubs good for high rough, sand, pitching and a high shot over obstacles. The specs are:- PW SW LW Loft 52 56 60 Lie 64 64 64 Bounce 6 12 8

;- Magnum 2000 Irons - 431 stainless steel, (steel or graphite shafts) RH
- These are cavity back irons with an overall forged blade classic shape and a polished mirror finish around the perimeter. The thickness of the sole from face to rear is slightly less than the typical cavity back irons to produce a boring ball flight that allows the right amount of spin to enable the ball to come to a quick stop on the green. The soles are also slightly radiused from face to rear to prevent digging as the ground is hit. The offset and the bounce are both progressive, as can be seen in the table below. These can be considered a medium to low handicap line of irons.

;- MDS-90 Combo irons - 431 stainless steel, (steel or graphite shafts) RH & LH - This system has three separate head designs, created to combat the problems players often have when playing irons.
1 - Long irons :- the 3 and the 4 iron are cavity back design with perimeter weighting to allow forgiveness with off center hits. The cavities have a thin muscle back section to add mass to the hit. The soles are heavily weighted to place the center of mass low in the head. This allows the player to gain a high launch angle on what are normally irons difficult to use. 2 - Mid irons :- the 5, 6 and 7 irons are considered to be mid irons. Here the same basic cavity design of the long irons is used, but the soles are less weighted and the muscle strip in the cavity is thicker. This puts more mass proportionately behind the ball, creating greater distance. For many, this may translate into one less club needed on an approach shot. 3 - Short irons :- the 8, 9 and the PW have the traditional muscle back design. This provides more classical high spin shots that tend to hold the green well.
All the irons have a radiused sole, from heel to toe, lessening the chance that the club will be stubbed into the ground at the toe or the heel on uneven lies. The offsets are progressive, more on the long irons and less on the short irons, to aid the player in squaring up the particlar club he happens to be using. We recognize that some players, particularly the slower swingers, may prefer woods or hybrids inplace of the low center of mass long irons in this system. Therefore we offer the option of buying the set without the long irons to ensure that the player configures his clubs to his particular needs.

-Hy*brid Select 5000 irons -17-4 stainless steel, TT Lite, Dynamic Gold steel shafts, graphite shafts RH & LH (LH is not in stock but available on special order)
- Although these are technically irons, with iron shafts and iron lengths, they are designed to be as easy to hit as fairway woods. The hollow construction places the center of mass down and towards the rear, as is the case of woods. This allows a more sweeping action as the player swings and lessens the need to dig into the ground to get the ball airborne. Many powerful players use the long clubs - the 1, 2, and 3 - as their preferred clubs. - Some players find they have more accuracy with hybrids than with fairway woods simply because they are made in shorter iron lengths than fairway woods. Often they prefer the less torque of the hybrid shaft which comes in the standard iron tip thickness of .370 inches. A fairway wood with a lesser tip thickness of .340 inches will tend to be less accurate for such players.
- However, the slower swingers (who are more numerous) find a benefit from just about all of the clubs. The shallow faces are slightly less than the diameter of the ball, which further aids lift. For those who have trouble taking a proper divot with any of their irons, it has become common for them to turn to the hybrids to replace their 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 irons.
These are offered in various sets so that the player can economically pick no more than needed.

+Re*cov*ery Hybrid Woods/Irons - 16, 20, 24, 28 & 32 degrees ( to replace the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 irons ) w/ Rapid Fire graphite wood shaft, RH, - and 16, 20, & 24 degrees, LH
- These five irons are hybrids, fashioned as very small woods with an extremely low profile. They are very compact, the same width as irons when measured from heel to toe. A number players feel that the difference in length between a fairway wood and its comparable iron is too large and they seek an intermediate length club to substitute for long irons. For example, a 5 wood with a graphite shaft has a standard length of 43" while the standard lengths for a 3 iron is 39.0" in a steel shaft and 39.5" using a graphite shaft. Such players feel they do not have enough control using fairway woods but they want more distance than obtainable at standard iron lengths. To reduce this distance spread, we have made these heads about 10 grams lighter than the normal long irons; have made the hosels 0.335" in diameter and build them with graphite wood shafts with a 0.335" tip diameter. ( Iron shafts are thicker at 0.370" and are therefore not as flexible at the tip as a wood shaft ). - As a result our standard lengths are now:- 16 deg. hybrid ( to replace a driving iron or a 2 iron ) - 42.5" 20 deg, hybrid ( to replace a 3 iron ) - 41.5" 24 deg. hybrid ( to replace a 4 iron ) - 41.0" 28 deg. hybrid ( to replace a 5 iron ) - 40.5" 32 deg. hybrid ( to replace a 6 iron ) - 40.0"

- As compared to the Hybrid Select 5000 irons above these heads are 15 mm's longer in depth as measured from the leading edge of the face to the extreme rear. This gives us room to incorporate two parallel rails on the sole, which should aid the player when facing a bad lie.The face height of each hybrid is a mere 32 mm's ( much less than the diameter of the ball ) which will, in combination with the heavy sole and the somewhat longer face to rear distance, make these long clubs get the ball airborne readily. - It is clear that many players have successfully solved the problems of long irons by using fairway woods in their place. Others have turned to Hybrid Irons with equal success. They are both good solutions, depending on the characteristics of the individual player. These are another alternate, suitable for any skill level. For those who can only play once or twice a week, these are probably the best solution to gain both accuracy and distance.

* XP * Hybrid Irons, 17-4 stainless steel, 2 thru 6 - steel; or graphite shafts RH
- This new product line has many different features from any of the above hybrids. The are weighted the same as conventional irons and use shafts with .370 " tips as is normal for irons. These are 33 mm high, which is a low profile that aids in getting the ball airborne rapidly. - The sole is 55 mm's as measured from the edge of the face to the back of the sole. This places the center of mass towards the rear of the head which enable the player to get a good launch angle in play. - However as the head meets the ground only 30 mm's of the front portion of the sole will hit the ground. This is due to the little step at the rear of the sole along with a V shaped rail, both of which promotes clean hits and prevents bouncing at contact with the ground. - The player can control ball flight, high, medium, or low by simply moving the ball back or forward in his stance. - These will serve players of any skill level.
